Clapham Picture House cinema: behind the scenes interview

Two very exciting things happened to us at the same time this week. Before your imaginations run wild (they’re already running wild aren’t they?) the two things were: 1. going into a cinema projector room 2. meeting someone that has been on The Apprentice. This was accomplished by meeting Clapham Picture House manager and guest star of the 2008 Apprentice series, Mike Matthews, who took the time to speak to Love Clapham about the cinema’s history, its renaissance and its future moves into digital and 3D. Clapham Cinema: Transformers 2: Revenge of the fallen
What does “more than meets the eye” actually mean? I’m sure we’re about to find out because the Transformers are back with a sequel that appears to put the special into special effects. Transformers 2 opens this week at Clapham Picture House and Love Clapham is all set to relive childhood memories. If the above trailer is anything to go by, this is a more epic (and hopefully better written) film than the first. Let’s hope for less comedy and more destruction this time around. Boots on Clapham High Street opens Wednesday

OK, I admit it, in the grand scheme of things this is hardly news. But in the world of Clapham High Street this is a front page headline! The Boots pharmacy store on Clapham High Street opens next Wednesday, 3rd June at 8.30am. That’s correct early birds, you can even pop in for a nose around before work if you’re that interested. Boots has obviously done its research and has stuck a massive “BEAUTY” label above the doorway to attract Clappers who like to look their best around the streets of Clapham. After a successful opening in 2009, Aquum has quickly established itself as the place to see and be seen in SW4. Offering a cool and chic feel, this interchangeable South London haunt is spread over three floors, spoiling you with plenty of room to relax throughout the week over a bite to eat with friends, and ample space to get your groove on at the weekends with resident sounds from Stereo Sushi and Bargrooves.
The White House is Clapham’s most famous night spot. It used to be fairly exclusive, but now it’s a bar come club with a fantastic roof terrace for the summer. Be prepared to queue if you turn up at the weekend.
Like most places in Clapham, 64th and Social is a mid-sized bar with trendy deco, good music, good cocktails and a DJ at the weekend.
Revolutions Vodka Bar is the Clapham branch of the well known chain. With a vast selection of vodka drinks and cocktails, a resident DJ on the weekends and two floors, it’s popular for good reason.
The Loft is one of Clapham’s newest venues, situated above Tesco on Clapham High Street. The Loft has done well in a short time, winning awards and lots of business.
The Two Brewers is one of South London’s most popular gay venues with cabaret acts on nearly every night of the week, pop music and a club room at the back.
