Review: Clapham’s Top 5 breakfasts

You may have gathered that here at Love Clapham, we love our breakfasts. With such a variety of cafes and restaurants in Clapham offering full English breakfasts, pancakes, muffins and more, Claphamites are certainly spoilt for choice – no wonder we’re breakfast obsessed! Of course, there are also some breakfast bloopers out there, so to help sift through the barrage of bacon we’ve listed our current Top 5 favourite breakfast cafes in Clapham. Which is your favourite?
1. Breads Etcetera (Clapham High Street)
What can we say about Breads Etcetera that hasn’t already been said? It was single handedly responsible for the breakfast renaissance in Clapham when it opened, fast becoming one of the most famous eateries in Clapham. Its bread is second to none, the novelty of the toasters on tables never tires and the selection of breakfasts remain high quality. However, it has become a victim of its own success with queues spilling out onto the streets every weekend. They have to be applauded for their success, it’s just a shame that it has become such a mission to get a table, and even when you do it can feel too busy inside. Despite this, once you’re in you will love every minute, but it is now the most expensive breakfast venue. A nice treat to impress the parents when they’re in town, but too popular to be a regular.
2. Brew (Northcote Road)
Healthy and hearty – Brew has something for everyone for breakfast! The fresh smoothies, porridge, poached eggs and fruit offer a light yet delicious option whilst those looking for something bigger and more filling could go for the scrambled eggs with chorizo, full english or waffles with syrup. With seating both inside and out, Brew always has a buzzing atmostphere – despite this the service is quick and efficient.
3. Bon Bon (Abbeville Road)
Bon Bon breakfasts smack of fresh and high quality ingredients. It isn’t one of the most expensive places, in fact, it’s good value, but it is slightly more expensive than The Pavement and with fewer options. However, it is, in Love Clapham’s humble opinion, the best breakfast you can buy on Abbeville Road. If there’s one thing to say about Bon Bon, it’s that the flavours in the breakfasts make an impact. You will leave satisfied. The restaurant is a good size, so you will always find a seat even when its busy.
4. Park House(Clapham Park Road)
Park House (used to be Perfect Blend) is a new contender to the breakfast circuit and while it doesn’t hit the perfection of the quality and choice of the above restaurants, it is extremely good value for money, has friendly staff and a great chilled out environment. It’s easily overlooked being situated on Clapham Park Road, so make sure you go to the effort of popping by here one day. You’ll enjoy it and it won’t put a dent in your wallet.
5. The Black Lab (Clapham Common South Side)
The Black Lab does some of the best coffee in Clapham by far! Up until recently they also had the best cake this side of the river, so it was pretty shocking when they said they weren’t going to sell it anymore – however…they’ve replaced the scrummy cake with a wide selection of delicious French pastries and not to fear the cake will be making will be making another appearance later in the year. The Black Lab is has a cosy atmostphere with lovely views over the Common.
So Love Clapham readers, where would you recommend?

Where’s Dexters? Bon Bon has seriously gone downhill lately. Lamentable service, and the food was poor last time we went.
I think that the Glow Lounge in Clapham South is far and away the best breakfast destination in Clapham!
Jacks on Lavender Hill is great! It’s got your typical greasy spoon menu (but it’s not as greasy) as well as other bits and bobs and lunches too!
I might try Jack’s this weekend! I should get a free breakfast if it’s my cafe
I can’t wait to try Breads Ecetera! If you are interested, I’ve done a “Best of” CLapham on my blog: http://thehappinessprojectlondon.wordpress.com/2009/12/04/best-of-clapham-imho-volume-1/

Hang on, no one has mentioned Fantasia in Clapham Old Town. Surely one of the best English Breakfasts in London. Best savoured with a hang over on a Sunday morning.
Definitely Breads Etcetera, great breakfasts, lovely breads and some near to perfection coffee. Yep! Be ready to wait for a table. All worth the wait
The Roastery on the corner of Wandsworth rd and The Chase is the best breakfast and does the best coffees in Clapham (and London)
Jacks on Lavender Hill is one of the best agreed, shame i’m a bit to far away now to get there very often
The Full Spanish fry up at El Rincon Latino on Clapham Manor Street is by far the best brunch option at the weekend: chorizo, eggs, toast, tomato, fried potatoes, sherry flavoured onions and mushrooms and chocolate con churros afterwards if you still have room.
I went to Bon Bon recently, it was my first time, I do not know how it was before but it was quite good this time and there were many people coming that date.
No way, Tonys near Clapham Junction should be number one, awesome food and really nice owners and staff. Its brilliant
