Despite the sensationalist headline and the truth behind it, there isn’t as much to be concerned about as the press are making us believe just yet. Although it is true that the piggy germs are getting closer with a few children from Dolphin School in Battersea being tested positive for Swine Flu on top of a few other cases in neighbouring areas like Dulwich. If you do, you should have already or shortly will receive a small leaflet explaining how Love Clapham can help you. This site is run by local residents and we want to support our local shops, cafes, bars and restaurants as much as possible. To do that, we want to start compiling all local special offers in our Clapham Offers forum. Continue reading

Love Clapham thought it was a real shame the day Woolworths packed up shop and left Clapham High Street. It was always going to be a battle of the big brands to take over the prime location and the one that won was Boots. Quite exciting news to have such a well known and successful High Street name. With Superdrug and a couple of independent chemists, Clappers are going to be spoilt for beauty products. Boots opens in June.
Clapham Common is a vast park that is a haven during the summer months and a breath of fresh air for a stroll in winter. It’s one of the best public parks in London and it’s one of the most appealing reasons to visit or live in Clapham. This Clapham Common guide explains everything you need to have a great day out on the common. Continue reading

It’s a double Clapper this week that helps show why Clapham is so amazing. The sun comes out and everyone heads to Clapham Common to start sunning their ankles. While the lady with her feet in the air is making a good attempt at Clapper of the week, the real prize has to go to the lady in the background who we spotted performing a range of very controlled stretches bordering on acrobatics. From head stands to raising her body up on its side using only her hands, she proved that Clapham is all about fun in the sun.

While browsing our Twitter feed last night, Love Clapham’s heart sank when we spotted a message about the likely closure of Clapham High Street station. Fair enough it’s the one station in Clapham that virtually no one knows about, but it serves an incredibly useful purpose. Continue reading

Apparently Richie Hawtin is joining Dubfire, Steve Lawler and Layo & Bushwacka on one of the stages at the South West Four festival. Can’t say Love Clapham knows half of them but they’re probably GREAT. In fact, after a quick session on Spotify Love Clapham can confirm that they will almost certainly, perhaps even definitely, be excellent. At least we’ll recognise Sasha and Eric Prydz when the festival comes around in August… Keep a track of the full line-up on our SW4 page.

Love Clapham’s been watching the world go Swine Flu barmy over the last couple of days and even Clapham residents are in on it. The Wandsworth Guardian is telling everyone that a resident is being tested for Swine Flu even though “The patient hasn’t been to any of the infected areas.” We suspect there’s a hypercondriac in our midst. When did normal flu stop being good enough? Thankfully tests are likely to come back negative and we have enough drug stocks in case of an outbreak. Phew – thank goodness for that eh, Clapham.

There are various shops sprinkled all over Clapham, with five main shopping areas to be aware of (although some are so close to each other, they’re practically the same place). This page explains each shopping area in Clapham and what they contain. Continue reading

Love Clapham probably loves Clapham more than most, but there’s one thing about Clapham we hate: junk mail. The above picture shows one week’s worth of junk mail in Love Clapham HQ near Clapham North. There are 39 items of junk mail and this amount arrives every single week, that’s around 2,000 items every year that simply don’t get read because of the sheer volume. Continue reading

Spring is well and truly upon us and the joggers are out in force to make the most of Clapham Common in the sun. This lady shot past at the speed of light. Gotta love that row of trees.

Eric Prydz and David Guetta are the big DJs to be added to an already outstanding line-up at the South West Four festival. The day long festival has been running for a number of years now and always proves to be a massive event on Clapham Common. This year it’s on Saturday 29th August and costs £40 for the day or combine with Get Loaded in the Park on Sunday for a £70 weekend pass. The full line-up’s in the rest of this post. It’s all a bit “bang bang bang” for our tastes, but we’ll probably see you there anyway. Love Clapham loves a bit of Pjanoo and Call on Me. Continue reading
