Well, well, well. Another bank holiday weekend has snuck up on Love Clapham and we couldn’t be happier. Thanks to Mother Nature (via the BBC) it looks like Monday’s out weather wise, but we like the look of a sunny Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It’s Clapham Common time! The best tasting festival in London is coming back to Clapham Common! Ben & Jerry’s Sundae on the Common festival will be gracing Clapham Common on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th of July. No acts or attractions have been announced yet, you can’t even buy tickets, so there’s not much to say other than to pop it into your diary. You can be guaranteed of free icecream however. Check back on Love Clapham soon for the latest info but in the meantime, register your interest on the Ben & Jerry’s Sundae on the Common website.

Someone seems to have installed an Indiana Jones set piece into the pavement on Clapham High Street this weekend. Sadly no religious artifacts or aliens were spotted, but it did give an intriguing glimpse into Clapham’s past by exposing the old Victorian pipes that are being replaced. Read more »

Face it, this weekend is all about Eurovision. Love Clapham HQ will be holding its own Eurovision party – sorry, it’s private! – and it’s guaranteed not to be the only one in Clapham. With Eurovision only running until 11.15pm (saying ‘only’ knowing full well it starts at 8pm and lasts for an epic 3 hours), what are people in Clapham going to be doing after the show? Awesome news for Clappers today as blonde bombshell Boris Johnson announced an influx of security in the form of a new police force in Clapham Junction. The nine person strong team will patrol the Clapham Junction area and its public transport. This is very welcome news for Love Clapham because not only are more Bobbies on the Beat a visible sign of reassurance, the size of the team means there’s some serious policing business to be had. Wrong doers begone! On a related note, the Clapham Town Safer Neighbourhoods Team has been in touch to say that “if anyone wants to speak to us in confidence regarding any criminal activities etc, just give us a call on the team number: 0208 721 2825.”

Young people in Lambeth are asking local residents to reconsider their opinions of kids and teens in the area. Apparently fewer than 3% of young people get involved in offenses and actually, there are groups of local young people wanting to help the Lambeth area including a Youth Council. There’s more information about the campaign and tonnes of other resources on the Young Lambeth website. Loving the posters.

Today Love Clapham HQ received a handy little leaflet updating us on the activities of the Clapham Town police force. Love Clapham has a particularly good view of the Clapham police force after they came to our aid on a couple of occasions in the past. In their leaflet the Clapham police highlight the priority to reduce anti-social behaviour in key areas of Clapham and the need to avoid illegal taxi touts. Read more »
