Winifield – 1. in direct contrast, while I still get junk mail I get a reduced amount 2. You may make a difference, I however don’t I’m afraid, council information yes, local newspapers are junk mail because I didn’t request them 3. as I mentioned in a previous comment, you can cut the LoveClapham bit off. The reason I included it was to spread the message about this campaign, so yes it is advertising but as I don’t make money from this site (I lose money) I don’t really see it as any kind of issue.

Regarding the sticker, although I welcome the campaign (and I like loveclapham), I must say:1- I’ve always wondered what is the efficiency of those sticker. I had one on my old door and was receiving plenty of junk mail. I replace the door this year, does not have the sticker anymore, and have always the same amount of junk. Not less, not more.2- I make a big difference between junk and information, Brightside, Wandsworth Guardian or even political leaflet are information. Pizza, deco and take away are junk.3- Isn’t it only advertising for loveclapham?

I’ve already had a couple of companies contact me because they weren’t happy about being listed and were apologetic. They’ve spoken to their deliver people – it is working slowly. It will never stop all junk mail of course.

I think this campaign is daft. The schleppers who deliver junk (who are often not UK nationals) may not even be able to read it! And by naming the ones that ignore it you are simply giving them more publicity -

I agree Cyril – remember, this only applies to people who have actively added a sticker to their door asking to stop unsolicited mail (which includes anything you haven’t asked for like borough news). People without anti-junk mail stickers will still get all of these. All I’m asking is for people to Respect-The-Sticker. Ooh, I might use that phrase more often

Love Clapham> You mean that your local borough news is junk? But where do people get any sort of information? Surely you need to feed them in some way or you are encouraging the sort of selfish behaviour (busy life – no time for community – not interested by what happens within the vicinity).
On the other hand, although more people use the Internet nowadays, we have to think of those who do not have access/don’t use it/are unfamiliar with websites.

Ouhaaa thousands a day. Congrats!

Can we have a ‘KEEP CLAPHAM CLEAN’ spearheaded by LoveClapham please. Littering is a particular problem in the area and i’m not sure it is enitrely a council problem, people should not just drop their litter on the streets without a thought and then blame the council for not clearing up after them. it would also be worth putting up keep clapham clean stickers at stretegic points similar to LoveClpaham’s ‘No junk mail’. Would be good to ask the councils for more bins too.

Hi Cyril, you’re right about the efficiency, I doubt how efficient they are too, that’s why I’m taking the hard line of naming and shaming companies (I’ll be making more noise about repeat offenders too). This site receives thousands of visits a day, so it’s not in local business’ interests to be ‘shamed’ on here.

Regarding the information you mention, this is a personal choice and there are junk mail stickers on sale elsewhere that make the distinction. Personally, I think these are wasteful, bad for the environment and personally I do not want them, therefore – to me – they are unwanted junk.

I put the logo on there, so I guess it is advertising but it is not the reason for me doing this. I’m giving the stickers away for free (I’ve already paid £60 for 190 of them out of my own money) and I want more people to support this campaign, so I felt it was a good thing to do. People can always cut the logo off, I don’t have a problem with that at all. Perhaps they can stick it to the inside of the takeaway restaurants as pay back

Hi Richard, yes, I got some of those stickers too, very good campaign / initiative.

Totally appreciate this campaign will ruffle some feathers of people but we live in a modern society where things like this shouldn’t happen. I would argue that the Wandsworth Guardian does fall into this category because if you haven’t asked for it and clearly request to not have unsolicited post it’s an invasion of your property and wishes. I have access to the Wandsworth Guardian website and only read that version, what’s the point in me receiving a printed version only to throw it away? More than anything it’s bad for the environment even if I do recycle it.

Or as I’d put it, I don’t want it and throw it in the bin, so it’s junk

Difficult to say the Wandsworth Guardian is Junk Mail. Granted, it’s unsolicited, but so are all local newspapers. If it was opt in, there would be less circulation, and therefore less advertisers and it couldn’t exist (some might think that’s a good thing perhaps).

Anyway… Jane Ellison MP was giving away Return To Sender stickers yesterday, encouraging the return of junk/unclaimed post to avoid Identity Theft. Kinda similar campaign – except that it has political motivations.
