I am meeting a friend in Clapham for lunch. As I am coming from Ashford International, I want to make a day of it and do some Christmas shopping. I am delighted to find a website which tells me clearly where to go and what I will find. I am looking forward to my day out in Clapham.

I lived in Clapham Old Town for 20 years until, 2 years ago, I decided it was no longer the place I had enjoyed living, and moved away to a more 'normal' area. Clapham High Street used to have the things that people above mention it lacks, such as good greengrocers, shoemenders etc, but these closed down, along with all the other long-standing shops such as the fishmonger, DIY shop, electrical shop, stationers and loads of others, because they could no longer afford the rent thanks to the gradual but relentless trendification of the whole area. It is now packed to the gills with bars and overpriced 'boutiques', with none of the useful basic shops that a diverse community needs. Very sad.
I now live in a town (which Clapham is NOT - it is a suburb) with a diverse mix of people of all ages, races and incomes, and where I don't have to pick my way down the street through piles of vomit on a Saturday morning. I do not miss Clapham.

The "bizarrely fronted Sainsbury supemarket" . . . originally had three or four (?) old style projectors the length of the windows, showing a continously changing display. The amount of maintenance this 'good idea' would demand in order to keep it going was obviously overlooked as the projectors disappeared not long after the store opened!

Obviously I like your website, but you need to test the spelling on quite a few of your posts. Several of them are rife with spelling problems and I find it very bothersome to tell you. Nevertheless I'll certainly come back again!

Are there any decent greengrocers in Clapham? Apart from the big Sainsbury's on the high street, the selection seems to be pretty poor.

i prefer it to the other options (tescos or another estate agent) and the restaurant it is replacing has been shut for the best part of 2 years.

i'd prefer a good quality local shop, ideally a shoe menders because as far as i can tell that service isn't available on abbeville road at the moment.

Does everyone know that there is ANOTHER Sainsbury coming to Abbeville Road. There is a Tesco,M&S and Sainsbury at Clapham South.
And at Clapham High Street: Sainsbury,Tesco and another Sainsbury.
Do we really want another to compete with the fine establishments in Abbeville.

I have read over a couple of your current blog entries and I was curious about if you were interesting in swapping blog site links? I am constantly seeking to trade links with websites on very similar themes! I look forward to hearing back from you before long.

You don't mention Clapham's excellent Sunday Farmers' Market in Bonneville School Playground, just off Abbeville Road. 10:00 am-2:00 pm.

I haven't been to a shopping centre in years. They're nice to visit, but I don't miss them. Nevertheless, Clapham High Street area needs better shops.

I disagree, why go to a homogeneous mall when you while a way an afternoon exploring your neighbourhood and supporting local independent businesses.
