Clapham Festivals 2009

Love Clapham’s on holiday this week, so sorry about the site being slightly quieter. We’ll have Clapham Picture House’s film listings up today or tomorrow, but Love Clapham’s mega excited about a one-off charity screening of Bugsie Malone at 1pm on Bank Holiday Monday. Classic! Clapham leaflet abuse must STOP!

Junk mail in Clapham, London

Back in April Love Clapham wrote about the utterly ridiculous amount of leaflets Clapham residents have to fight their way through to get out of the door in the morning. Now this site is getting thousands of visitors from Clapham a week we think it’s time to take action! This abuse of people’s houses must STOP. Read the rest of this entry »

Clapham cinema: the Time Traveller’s Wife

This is the film that Love Clapham’s been waiting for, the movie adaptation of the best selling book, the Time Traveller’s Wife. There aren’t any reviews yet, so it could either be amazing or a stinker, but we’re still keen to see the story played out on the big screen. It opens at the Clapham Picture House next week along with Inglourious Basterds. Big films! Read on for next week’s full listings. Read the rest of this entry »

Clapper of the Week: Clapham Common ice snorkel

Clapham Common ice snorkel

Yes, you’re right. That is the most amazing picture you have ever seen in your life. As if a man in a wet suit breaking through the ice of a Clapham Common pond wasn’t brilliant enough, a goose decided to honk along and make the picture approximately 1 MILLION TIMES more amazing. Taken on Clapham Common in the winter, John Forbath who runs the Big Squid Dive Centre, donned his wetsuit, cracked open the ice and had a little paddle. Bonkers! This can definitely be filed under ‘don’t try this at home kids’ and ‘only for experts’. John Forbath is one of the nominees for our Clapper of the Year award in the Clapham Awards 2009. More photos in the rest of the post. Read the rest of this entry »

Clapham Cinema: The Yes Men Exclusive

Anyone else a little disappointed by Harry Potter? Love Clapham was. It was still great, but didn’t hit the mark like the other films for us. Nevermind! There are loads of films showing at Clapham Picture House at the moment including G.I. Joe, Coco Before Chanel, The Proposal and Bruno. Then, next Tuesday 11 August at 8.30pm is an exclusive showing of the feature documentary of The Yes Men Fix The World with a satellite Q & A (trailer above).  Read the week’s listings in the rest of this post. Clapham weather bank holiday weekend

Clubbing in Clapham celebrates bank holiday Monday with Inferno’s beach party on Sunday night, a mere £5 before 10pm. Read the rest of this entry »

South West Four (SW4) – Saturday 29 August

South West Four SW4

Eric Prydz and David Guetta are the big DJs to be added to an already outstanding line-up at the South West Four festival. The day long festival has been running for a number of years now and always proves to be a massive event on Clapham Common. This year it’s on Saturday 29th August and costs £40 for the day or combine with Get Loaded in the Park on Sunday for a £70 weekend pass. The full line-up’s in the rest of this post. It’s all a bit “bang bang bang” for our tastes, but we’ll probably see you there anyway. Love Clapham loves a bit of Pjanoo and Call on Me.  Read the rest of this entry »
